On January 20, 2006 we called to cancel a reservation for the Americinn in Griswold, CT which was being held for Jan. 21, 2006. Although we were calling at the very last minute to cancel we spoke to a shift manager on the evening of January 20th and were given a cancellation no. in accordance with the cancellation system that is in place at Best Lodging.
I noticed on the next cc statement I received that I had been billed for the room by the Americinn. Upon calling the hotel I was told that they could not credit me due to the fact they did not rec. my cancellation. I told them I had a cancellation no., but that did not matter to them since they did not issue it.
As far as we were concerned, when we were given the cancellation no. the room reservation was cancelled. That no. was an agreement on the part of Best Lodging absolving me of any obligation to pay for the room.
At this time, after two months of emails and phone calls detailing the events of the evening we called to cancel our room, we have finally gotten an email that told us " I apologise if you were told differently by our call centre, what happened is they may have tried to cancel your reservation, but due to the cancellation policy in place they were unable to do so."
What puzzles us is why we were given a cancellation no. Apparently, these nos. hold no meaning for Best Lodging. Looking forward, I would feel no more confident in the meaning of the reservation confirmation nos. than in the meaning of the so-called cancellation nos. .
My correspondence and follow up phone calls appear to go to World Res. Com. I do not know what other internet booking sites they run, but would avoid all of them.
