Hi

I bought a brand new Compaq Presario 1050US with Intel Centrino laptop on

day after Thanksgiving Nov 29,2003 from BestBuy Store in Galleria, Houston,

TX USA. At the time of purchase I also purchased a three year extended

warranty for my Laptop. Best Buy sells this warranty as a Performance

Service Plan (PSP). The SKU number for the extended warranty provided to me

is 5720026. It’s a three year Performance Service Plan (PSP).


On March 14, 2006, I found that my computer was not working and took it to

the repair center at Best Buy. (The so called GEEKSQUAD)


On 30th March, 2006, I called in Bestbuy Sharpstown Repair center and to my

surprise I find that there has been an update on the status of my computer

repair.

To much of my surprise, the GEEKSQUAD representative at the Sharpstown

Repair Center at BestBuy informed me that your REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY CLAIM

HAS BEEN DENIED FOR " SPILLED LIQUID". Not only that, if i wanted to have

it repaired by BestBUY GEEKSQUAD reps it would cost me approximately $ 873.

To get my computer back, I am required to pay BestBuy $ 108.25 for just

servicing and diagnostics.


I believe I have a couple of reasons why I feel I do not agree with the

decision made by BestBuy on my computer repairs.

1. I have had this computer with me at all times up and until it was

delivered to the repair technician at the Sharpstown Bestbuy store. While in

my possession there is absolutely, positively no possibility of any form of

spilled liquid to be there. As a matter of fact it was not even raining in

Houston, TX on March 14, 2006 in the Sharpstown, Houston, TX area. The

Bestbuy Sharpstown Technician performed a check of the computer in my

presence and okayed it. He told me since he tried plugging at his repair

center in Bestbuy Store there was no change in status. He agreed with me

that it needed to be sent out for repairs. He provided me with an estimated

date and had me initial next to estimated date.

2. I had worked on this computer up and until the night before I took in for

repairs to bestbuy (March 13, 2006,).I noticed that I was unable to charge

up the computer on March 14, 2006, and I figured since I had extended

warranty that was still valid, I could call in BestBuy Repair Center and

have this taken care of. I instead, personally took my laptop to the Bestbuy

store at Sharpstown, Houston, TX.

3. Fortunately, I had backed up all my data the night before I sent it in

for repairs to BestBuy.

4. The Laptop has always been in my possession in a safe place inside the

carrying case.

For BestBuy Repair Service Center to conclude that I have "SPILLED LIQUID"

while in my possession, I find it very surprising and annoyed at the

decision. I believe anything could have happened in transition between when

I left my computer at the Bestbuy Sharpstown, Houston, TX Repair shop and

when it arrived at the BestBuy Repair Service Center.

This has been a HELL OF AN EXPERIENCE.


FYI. This was my first Laptop Purchase at BESTBUY ON THEIR MOST BUSIEST DAY

OF THE WHOLE YEAR, THE EARLY MORNING WEE HOURS OF THE DAY RIGHT AFTER

THANKSGIVING, NOVEMBER 29, 2003, WHEN EVEN AFTER STANDING IN LINE IN THE WEE

HOURS OF THE MORNING TO BUY THE ADVERTISED COMPUTER I WAS UNABLE TO PURCHASE

IT, HOWEVER, THAT SAME EVENING I HAD ONE OF THEIR SALES AGENTS FIND ME THAT

VERY EXACT COMPUTER ONLY TO SUCK ME INTO BUYING THIS "NO GOOD EXTENDED

WARRANTY:" that WOULDN'T DELIVER WHAT IT PROMISED. WHAT A SHAME ON BESTBUY

STORE EMPLOYEES AT Galleria STORE, HOUSTON, TX AND BESTBUY STORES IN

GENERAL.

I bought a laptop from BestBuy and was hounded to purchase the 3 year

extended warranty that would cover anything the salesperson said. He also

stated if they couldn't fix it, they'd replace it.

I would be very HESISTANT OF THE EMPLOYEES AT BESTBUY THAT EMPLOY DISGUSTING

TACTICS IN TELLING YOU THAT ALL YOU EVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IS TO BRING IT

IN FOR REPAIRS IF IT STOPS WORKING AND WE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT FOR YOU AND

YOU WILL OWE NOTHING. When I bought this computer, the Sales Person went as

far as letting me know that if you drop it and screen cracks you will get a

BRAND NEW LAPTOP with VERY SIMILAR CONFIGURATION. (FYI : Accidental Damages

are not covered) . IT WILL ALL BE COVERED FOR YOU AND THAT THE SERVICE

PLANS OR CONTRACTS THEY PROVIDE UNDER THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTIES WILL TAKE

CARE OF IT.

Also to my surprise, it was not until i took my laptop for repairs that I

realized that there was a Platinum service plan with much more coverages and

service enhancements compared to the plan I was sold. However, when i

inquired about this Platinum service plan at the time of my repair warranty,

the GEEKSQUAD reps told me that this platinum plan was not available until

May 2005. I bought my laptop November 29, 2003.


Please review this information and I will be forwarding one copy of this

complaint to the better business bureau,Houston, TX, the chambers of

commerce in Houston, TX and warranty insurance claims adjuster for coverages

listed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, Austin Tx.
