Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to complain about my experience at Burger King in Halifax yesterday, 13/04/06.

I visited the restaurant at around 2.45pm yesterday, with my son and two other friends and their children. We ordered various items from the menu, including two chicken royale meals. When my friend was being served, the young man who was serving her dropped a bag of chicken bites and then proceeded to put them on my friend’s tray. My friend said she didn’t want food that had been dropped on the floor. After some argument, the man eventually replaced them.

My friend and I could not eat our Chicken Royale sandwiches because they were luke warm. We returned them, asking if they had a probe to check the temperature - a young woman said she would make fresh ones for us. No sooner, had we returned to our table, the woman brought the Chicken Royales over to us. Although the sandwiches were obviously not the ones we had taken back, they could not have possible been cooked from fresh, due to the very short time lapse.

After starting to eat the ‘fresh’ sandwiches, which were tasteless, we examined the contents. Firstly, the coating looked quite dark – as if it had been re-fried (hence the chicken was hot but tasted disgusting), the ‘chicken’ had an elastic, sponge-like consistency and did not look like chicken. We voiced our complaints to the young woman, taking the sandwiches back to the counter.

The duty manger than came to speak to us, brought us a copy of the ingredients list, took our names and addresses and offered to replace our meal, which we refused. AT NO TIME WERE WE OFFERED A REFUND in place of the inedible meal.

She apologised and said customer careline would be in touch with us and sort everything out, including a refund. She said Burger King did not make the chicken, which was supplied by another company. We did not get a receipt for our meals.

As we had paid our money to Burger King, I fail to understand why we should wait for a refund from the customer careline or the supplier. By law, that branch of Burger King, in Halifax, was OUR supplier and should have therefore provided a direct refund to us. After all, we paid our money to them.

Personally, I would have liked a receipt, a full refund for the inedible meal, and the address to which I could address my complaint. I would have rather have taken the chicken away myself for independent analysis. No doubt the national tabloids would be very interested in this story.

I think that our experience was totally unacceptable for the following reasons

* Unhygienic serving of food that had been dropped on the floor

* No receipts issued

* Re-heating of food (Chicken Royales)

* Not taking responsibility for serving of inedible meals and ‘passing the buck’ to THEIR suppliers.

I look forward to a full explanation of our experience at Burger King in Halifax, and a full refund and some form of compensation for total lack of customer care. I do not want vouchers or tokens to be redeemed at Burger King, as we shall not be going there again.

We had had a lovely day out at Eureka in Halifax and this experience totally spoiled the day for myself, my friends and most of all, the children. The children wanted ice cream desserts in Burger King but because of our experience, I refused to buy them. In retrospect, I really am disgusted by our treatment at Burger King and cannot believe the blas
