Re: Complaint on Empire Today, LLC, Laminate Flooring Empire Today, Northlake, Ill--Problem with installation of laminate floor. > I just wanted to express how unhappy my husband and I are with Empire Today and the laminate floor we had installed in our home in Feb. 2006. Our salesman lied to us and now we are paying the price for believing him and hiring them to install the laminate floor in our home. First he acted like he was giving us the deal of the century on our floor and the only way he could give us the price he was, if we gave him the name of 2 other people that may be interested in new floors. Even though we felt the price he quoted was high, at this point we thought we were dealing with a reputable company and we were getting a good product and we were paying for the name. So we agreed. He even stated we would love our floor so much and how nice it was going to look in the house he'd come back to look at it to see how it turned out! (Still waiting for him) :) First he told us they DO NOT hire subcontractors all the employees are Empire Today employees, that was the first lie. Second he told us that they will remove the carpet and level out the entire floor before putting it down and it would be level and no squeaks. Well our floor squeaks a lot and we have a low spot that we tried to have fixed the day after it was installed and before they had completed the job, but we were told by the contractor there was nothing they could do. After numerous phone calls and no return calls and even being hung up on, we were finally told by the Orlando office that the spot we are having trouble with is because Empire Today only fixes the floors to 1/8 of an inch and anything over that is our responsibility. It's really hard for us to get something fixed that we were not told about. I sent a certified letter to the home office and spoke with a Helen Brown today and got the run around all over again!!! They have agreed to tear up our floor and then put our floor back down, once we hire someone to come and fix the low spot at our expense. Again, we were told by the saleman that they fix all low/high spots in the floor before installing it. So why would it be our responsibility to pay the expense??? Plus my husband and I do not have enough vacation time to take off of our jobs to have this done. If we receive any kind of service as we have had from them so far, we may be off of our job for weeks. Even if we could take off from our jobs we do >not feel it's our responsibility to pay to have the floor leveled, since our salesman told us that the company does that............ All we wanted was a discount on the floor since we did not receive the services we agreed upon by the salesman. Of course Helen could not tell me why the saleman lied to me or why the contractor did not give us the opportunity to have the floor fixed at the time of installation. I asked to speak with a manager from Empire Today but she was it.........!! I really wish I would have read this website before hiring them to install my floor....I would have never hired Empire Today. I spent 25 minutes on the phone with Helen Brown from customer service and I am more frustrated with this company than I ever have been. Oh by the way, I called our saleman on 3/3 and he told me that we should not have that low spot and he would call me 3/4/06 to come and see the floor......you guessed it, I'm still waiting to hear from him. He never called or showed up. I guess he felt once he received his commission on $11,900 that his job was done!!! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND EMPIRE TODAY TO ANYONE AND WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WE HAD WITH THEM......
