Residential Construction Services, Remodeling I would like to file a complaint against 5 Star Construction.
Co. Name: 5 Star Construction Owner: Dino Filippelli Business Address: PO Box 75 Koppel, PA 16136 Phone#: 330-831-8886 Alt. Address: 206 Aurthur Street Koppel, PA, 16136
Job Location: 541 Canal Street Beaver, PA 15009 Owner: James Bowen (ME)
The complaint is as follows:
- Damaged personal property: I came home one day and my dog cage was kicked in. I asked him to remove the people from the site, he did and got new people to do the work. - Damaged my house: He jacked my house up in a day, it normally takes several days/weeks. It caused apprx $3,000 worth of damage that I now have to pay for. - Payment issues: He had a problem with paying the Dry Waller, his laborer, and the electrician. I had to get involved all three times to rectify the situation. - Communication issues: I would ask him to do something and he would say okay and do something totally different. - Failure to meet deadlines: We would set reasonable deadlines; he never met one of them. - Quality Issues: He did things half way to save money and he provided the cheapest product he could find. As far as the product I asked for mid grade items at the beginning of the project. - Debris: Debris is piled up on my front porch so high that it is almost touching the ceiling and there are piles in my yard. - Mismanagement of money: I gave him $5,500 down to purchase siding, windows and heaters. He purchased 2 heaters and that was it. I gave him $1,000 towards electric. The dog cage was slightly damaged, but it was not purposely or maliciously damaged. The dog that was inside this cage was very vicious and we were afraid to go near it. Regarding Damaged My House - We were only leveling 2 floors, not the entire building. Customer was made aware that doors that have been cut and re-cut over the past 50 years due to sagging would more than likely have to be replaced. Customer was also made aware that new floor coverings would be necessary. Regarding Payment Issues - Customer broke contract promises of payment and scheduling, which delayed job progress/payment - meanwhile, my dry wall guy, my laborer and the electrician refused to finish the job without payment. The electrician's job was to run new service from the pole to the meter, then from the meter to a new breaker box that he was to install. The cost for the electrician alone was $3800 (again, an independent, outside contractor). The customer only paid the electrician $1000. Customer was getting money wired from his parents in VA, at their own discretion, not according to the terms set forth in the contract. Regarding Communication Issues - I agreed to do and did everything the customer asked. Customer was not familiar with the procedure that needed to be followed in order to do the job correctly. Regarding Failure to meet Deadlines - Payment was not disbursed in an adequate fashion in order to ensure deadlines were met. Regarding Quality Issues - Customer was asked to provide model numbers and/or sku numbers of the items he required to ensure that we stayed in the mid-price range we agreed. These model/sku numbers were never provided so other materials of like quality were substituted. Regarding Debris - We had a mutual agreement to void the contract. At that point, customer assumed all responsibility for trash removal. Regarding Mismanagement of Money - This was a 3 story home. Approx cost of the siding (materials only) was $7500. There were 25 windows in the house at $200 each (material only). The 2 heaters that were purchased were for the 2 rooms that were completed, but for the carpeting. An independent contractor was hired by me to do the flooring. The customer refused to pay the carpet installer, so I had to pay him. Again, this was a money problem that was controlled by the customer's parents, who were out of state...again not abiding by the contract. I've been in business for 30+ years and have countless satisfied customers. It's unfortunate that this customer feels the job didn't run smoothly. It all came down to payment issues. Nobody wants to work for free, or pay out of pocket because there were concerns I would not be paid by the customer at all.
