RE: Damage to my car caused at store #025208

Please be advised that I would like to:

1. withdraw the complaint I submitted previously against Firestone tire and service shop #025208 and

2. clear the shop's record.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Alexander Klaz

<I had oil changed on the 12/16/05. There was no problem with my half shafts. Otherwise, the mechanic would have told me, just like he did on the 21st. However, the oil was dripping, and I went back on 12/21/05 to tighten the bolt. On the 21st, after the work on my car was done - tightening of the oil filter bolt after the oil change, Brian, the mechanic, called me over and pointed out that the left and right half shafts (rubber covers) needed to be replaced. When I looked at the shafts I saw neatly cut rubber bags. The joints were covered with fresh, shiny grease. (It is possible only if the damage was just caused).

I was shocked because only two days prior to the 21st I spent time under the car trying to tighten the oil bolt because the oil was slightly leaking and the shafts were in tact. Within the last two weeks I was under my car on few separate occasions examining everything. I always do this to prevent problems. At that time the half shafts rubber bags were intact as well.

The fact that on the 21st after the mechanic finished working on my car there was fresh grease on joints and around the joints speaks for itself that the damage was done then. On the 22nd I got under the car to check and noted that there was complete dryness in the same areas. At that time I also took photographs of the damage.

All of the above lead me to believe and the preponderance of evidence points to only one conclusion: the half shafts were neatly cut at Firestone on the 21st.

My car is 15 years old and has been in excellent condition. My half shafts were just changed last year. It is not possible for the original half shafts to live for 14 years, and the new ones suddenly split on the 21st.

Now the repairs will cost me $600.00 (six hundred dollars) for the damage the Firestone itself caused. The Firestone gave an estimate of repairs. I tried to complain. First I called the manager, Evan. He refused to give me the telephone and/or fax number of the Claims department. I told him that it is not legal. He then gave me the phone of the district office. I called the DO and also faxed to them the explanation of the problem. During the follow up call 15 minutes later, I was informed that they will do nothing and it is the end.

I know that the shop caused the damage. The day before, on the 20th , the half shafts were in tact. I have heard of such practices but was not the victim until now.
