Empire Today Carpets

Empire Today Carpets

Store is at 2900 Faber, Union City, California

Complaint is as follows: Stay away from this store unless you want to get taken. I set up an appointment for an estimate. A salesman came over and proceeded to quickly measure the room and hall in question. Because I was considering buying when there is an advertised 50% off sale, I asked for a breakdown of the carpet cost, installation cost, old carpet removal charge, etc. Salesman proceeded to tell me that they do not provide a breakdown but that I should rest assured that I was getting the 50% discount. The amount quoted was too high considering the kind of carpet I was buying. I did business with a competitor store in the recent past and I paid about $200 less than what Empire Today wanted, for the same carpet space and with a better quality carpet. I've never heard of a company who won't disclose how much each item costs. The discount, by the way, applied only to the carpet cost, not to anything else. This is why I wanted to know how much the carpet alone cost. After being told the total only, I told the salesman that I wanted to discuss the transaction with another party who was sharing the cost with me but was not present and was quickly told that if I wanted to retain the so called discounted price, I needed to finalize the transaction right then and there. They don't want to give you time to talk to anyone else about it. In addition, Mr. Salesman wanted me to tell him first how much I expected to pay before he would quote me a price. Each time I asked him for a quote, he would revert back to asking me how much I expected to pay and would not answer me. I must have asked him three times.

It's clear from all of these details that this is not an ethical, honest company and if you need carpet installation services, you're better off elsewhere. I did business with Home Depot before, to where I am returning now, and they had no objection in giving me all the information that was necessary. Also, I paid about $200 less than what Empire Today was asking for a thicker carpet, for the same area space.

Sincerely,

A. Valdespino
