Maytag Neptune 6500 clothes washer We placed a service call to Maytag on Monday, Nov. 28, 2005 for service on our Maytag Neptune clothes washer. We described the problem as the washer would not spin after the wash cycle leaving the clothes dripping wet. The service was scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30 between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The service technician arrived at approximately 1:00 PM and diagnosed the problem but was not able to repair the washer because the necessary parts were not available. We have been told that the necessary parts are on "national backlog" with no definite restocking date until the manufacturer produces more parts for Maytag. The service technician estimated that it might be at least another 1.5 to 2 weeks before the part is available, but it could be even longer. He suggested that we call Maytag customer service every couple days to nag them about the problem so that we can get to the head of the list when the parts are available. Maytag should have the necessary repair parts in stock or provide compensation when their products cannot be repaired in a reasonable time. It has recently come to our attention that there was a class action settlement relating to our model Maytag Neptune Washer. We never received notification about this prior to the problem we are now experiencing with our model MAH6500AWW. We purchased the Maytag Neptune clothes washer and dryer in July 2003 believing that it represented a superior product with outstanding service. We now have completely reversed our opinion. Not only is their service technician unable to repair our washer because a necessary part is not available (on "national backorder"), but the problem appears to be widespread per the class action settlement. We are being very inconvenienced because the part needed to repair our washer is not available with no definite date when it will become available. This kind of service is unacceptable for a company with a reputation for quality and service. Also, calling Customer Assistance is equally poor as I was placed on lengthily holds and then transferred to the wrong department.
