The detailed complaint against Woodstock Chrysler Jeep Dodge follows:
My visit to the Woodstock 5-Star dealership turned into a real-life nightmare. By accident, I stopped in at Woodstock Chrysler Jeep on Sunday, December 11. I can’t imagine how this dealership could possibly have been granted a Chrysler 5 Star Dealership affiliation. I have never been treated so poorly at any business in my entire life. I walked on to Woodstock’s lot in response to an ad that I had seen in that Sunday’s newspaper. The ad stated two separate rebates ($4500 & $6300) on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredos. The ad stated that they had three similar vehicles on the lot. I asked the first salesman (Lance) I saw about the ad and he said, “Well, we only have two leftnow (leading me to believe it was his ad)—let me show them to you.” Another family was there looking at the same two Jeeps and their salesman (Roger) who was familiar with the ad was discussing it with his prospects and asked Lance if he had seen the ad. I said I had it with me and he asked if he could see it. It was then that Roger said—this is Woodstock Jeep; the ad is from Cherokee Jeep. I apologized for mistakenly thinking I WAS at Cherokee Jeep and I intended to leave the lot to find Cherokee. At that time, both salesmen told me that it wasn’t necessary to leave because they would meet or beat the price in the ad. They insisted that whatever another dealer could do, they could do too.
I test drove one of the two Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredos and decided on one. Since my husband was out of town and needed to fill out the credit application, the dealership allowed me to take the Jeep home overnight to show my daughter who would be driving it and to make a decision while the application would be filled out through the internet by my husband who was out of town. During this time we realized that the price that Lance gave us was not in accordance with the ad price and that he didn’t meet OR beat the price in the ad. I called him the following morning and Lance realized that the car in the ad was a higher priced Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and said that he needed to find one the same price as the one in the ad, but he thought they had one and if they did, they would match or beat the price in the ad. He said he thought the one on their lot was a Midnight Blue with leather interior. It was about 11:00 am on Monday. He said he would call back in about an hour and let me know. About two hours later he called and said that they did have the car, but that it wasn’t on the lot because the owner’s wife had taken it because her car was in the shop. He asked what time I would be bringing the other Jeep back and I said 3:30. He asked if I could make it 5:30 just to be sure the Midnight Blue car would be there. I said sure.
At 5:40, I arrived at the dealership and was told by Lance that the ex-wife (they apparently got divorced that day because the first time I was told it was the wife) was on her way and that she would be there in 15 or 20 minutes. Forty minutes later, Lance again told me the ex-wife was really on her way now and that she was only 10 minutes away. Lance also told me at this point that he was sorry for the wait but that I could at least rest assured that the deal was approved as we had discussed on the phone because he had received approval to go ahead with the deal (Woodstock would match Cherokees ad price). Another 45 minutes later, Lance told me she was on Rt. 92 by the church and should be there in 5 minutes. Carla (the ex) finally showed up at about 7:25—almost two hours after I was asked to be there. Not once during this two-hour period did the owner come over and apologize or even so much as offer a bottle of water.
My daughter and I looked at the car and agreed that we would go forward with the credit app and make the purchase. As we walked over to the desk to fill out the paperwork, Roger was offering a granola bar to his customer and another salesmen was sitting at another table with a couple (both male) who were offered a soft drink and coffee. We sat down and filled out the paperwork with Lance. He came back to me two or three times with payment options and asked me to sign each time to verify that I would be going ahead with the deal. I waited over an hour to see the finance manager (Brian) and finally was given a choice between a higher interest rate and a lower interest rate which Brian claimed he was able to buy down with coupons that Chrysler provided if I agreed to purchase a $1,680 7-year or 70,000 mile warranty. He told me how lucky I was because Cherokee Jeep would never have been able to offer that because they weren’t a 5-Star dealership. I didn’t understand and said, do you mean they wouldn’t have honored the deal that they stated in the newspaper? And he said, “oh no, they wouldn’t have been able to buy down the interest rate.” I decided I’d rather pay the higher interest rate than buy the warranty and in less than a minute Brian stepped out of the office and didn’t return. Lance came back to say that the deal was off because the General Manager just found out about it and that the General Manager had checked out the VIN number and found that the 3 Jeeps on the Cherokee lot were hail-damaged cars. (I really don’t know how you can look at a VIN number and know that the car is hail-damaged.) I was asked over a period of 8 hours that I spent in that dealership to verify my end of the bargain with my signature probably seven or eight times and when it came down to Woodstock sticking to their agreement with me, the moment I turned down the warranty (which was never a part of the original agreement), the deal was off. If Woodstock had been upfront and honest with me, and let me know that they needed $1680.00 for the deal to go forward and that in return I would be given an extended warranty, I probably would have agreed to those terms. But, Woodstock is not honest and upfront.
It was truly amazing how differently the other customers were treated that evening. They all happened to be men and they all were taken care of much more expediently. I was kept on that lot almost until the dealership closed on Sunday (3 and a half hours) and then another 4 From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Tuesday, 13-Dec-05 17:56:23 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
